Germany has a sad history of the divided country, as it is similar to Korea. Korea is still divided, but Germany was united. Of course, it has the different situation with Korea because Germany didn't have a war between East and West. Anyway, Berlin was divided into four areas and each area was taken by a different country, such as United States, France, United Kingdom and the Soviet Union. During the Cold War, the areas were divided physically and German couldn't visit each other. At that time, Berlin wall was built in 1961. Until now, there are many things about this history in Berlin. Among them, the place to introduce today is an important place, but it is not well known.

There is a bridge above Bornholmer Strasse station for S1, S2 and many subway lines. The bridge is called Bösebrücke(Boese bridge). Even though this bridge looks like a normal bridge, it was first crossing of the East Berliner after the officer announced about breaking up the wall.

The bridge in Bornhomer Strasse was opened at night from 9. Nov. to 10. Nov. in 1989, it was the first time since 13. August 1961.

After dividing Berlin and building the wall, There was a control gate in this street.

This picture shows the gate in those days.

The wall remains to mark the anniversary when the border restrictions were lifted at 9. November 1989 and there is the information board which explains the history of divided Germany and the situation of opening the gate.

If you look at the ground, I think you are able to feel their emotion for wanting to be one. After the press conference at 9. November 1989, German ran toward the wall and they shouted 'open the gate'.

10: 42 p.m. "The gate in the wall is opening wide", ARD reported.

11:20 p.,m. "Open the gate! Open the Gate! We come again!", East Berliner shouted.

11:30 p.m. "We are flooding now! We open all!" the officer said.

At that night, Over 20,000 people crossed to West-Berlin using this bridge. I could feel through the pictures how much they wanted to visit each other and felt happy when the gate was opened.

It is not the gorgeous place and this place is surrounded with the residence area, but it is the important place for Berliner who experienced that era. In my opinion, Korean can feel deeply than other tourists as they have the same experience of the divided country. And this place makes Korean to hope the reunification of Korea as Germany.
